Meet our 2018-19 School Spelling Champion, Justin!

The last few rounds were an epic battle pitting Justin against two fellow contestants, Marvin and Diego.

Bilingual Spelling Bee

Elementary UIL District Meet #3

Pershing Middle School 2/3/2018 - we were thrilled to bring our teams for our first meet of the 2017-18 school year! 28 Panthers competed in a wide variety of fields. We can't wait for next time!

District Spelling Bee 1/31/2018

Campus Spelling Bee - 12/12/2017

50 scholars battled the vagaries of English language spelling valiantly, but in the end it came down to two 5th graders, Gina and Zoe. Both of these students have been regulars in academic competition for their entire elementary career: Name That Book, UIL, and both have been finalists in Spelling Bee and Bilingual Spelling Bee in previous years. I am delighted to be taking Zoe as our champion and Gina as our alternate to the District Spelling Bee January 31st!

One Act Play 2017-18

Our UIL One Act Play troupe earned a "Superior" rating at this year's District Elementary One Act Play Festival at Hogg Middle School on December 9th, 2017

ONE ACT PLAY

This team is selected from the larger UIL A+ team by audition. Two casts (a competition and a local performance cast) are set. All props, sets, and costumes are made in house with student teams. Our 2015-16 experienced many challenges due to cancellations, weather alerts, and scheduling conflicts, but made us Panther Proud with a series of stellar campus performances!

Special thanks to our director, Ms. Hernandez!

BALLET FOLKLORICO

I am beyond thrilled to welcome this group! I am tremendously grateful to coaches Mr. Briceno and Ms. Ryan for their help with this. I may love Ballet Folklorico, but I have no knowledge of the art form and would not be able to offer this to our Panthers without their expertise and experience!

They did a spectacular job, and our team was recognized at the district contest for their outstanding performance! We are very thankful for our wonderful PTO who sponsored the purchase of the beautiful costumes!

A+ ACADEMICS

A few Panther champions!
This program allows students to meet other outstanding scholars from across the district in friendly competition. We attend four meets a year where students are given the opportunity to showcase their talents and knowledge.

UIL Participation Benefits:
  • Students extend and enrich their knowledge of core classroom subjects.
  • Participation teaches that it is a privilege and an honor to represent one's school.
  • Students learn to win graciously and to lose with their dignity and self-respect intact.
  • They learn that self-motivation and intellectual curiosity are essential to success.
  • And it's fun!

Just a handful of our more than
75 medals and trophies for 15-16
We are extremely grateful to our coaches and volunteer judges:
Ms. Wheatley, Ms. Karna, Ms. Mehaffey, Ms. Hernandez, and Ms. Accavallo!

Thanks are also due to our wonderful PTO for  being our lunch and snack sponsors! They make sure that our team is only hungry for achievement!

This program would be impossible without the support of our amazing Panther Parent Partners! The bulk of practice and preparation is at home. While the school provides all necessary study materials, students must have initiative and self-discipline to succeed! Thank you, parents, for promoting UIL!
